The APA: The Association of Paternalistic A$$holes

Becky Murphy

I’d like to refer you to a post on the blog Involuntary Transformation, which is written by Becky Murphy (yobluemama!) out in Washinton State. She has posted documents relating to the laws that are being passed to legalize psychiatric profiling in the wake of the Sandy Hook murders. There are two important documents (that we all would be wise to study) that were issued by the The America Psychiatric Association on the issue of violence. Nowhere do they mention the fact that psychiatric behavior-control chemicals CAUSE people  to become suicidal and homicidal.

Becky’s comments:

The Experts: The American Psychiatric Association Department of Government Relations, Assessing the Risk for Violence and Access to Firearms

No one should be surprised that the “experts,” in the American Psychiatric Association do not have any plan, “Policy” or “Position Statement” on how the APA will act to mitigate the risk for violence caused by the adverse effects of the psychotropic drugs they use off label without any valid indication the drug will treat the symptom it is being prescribed to treat…In fact, there is no mention that the drugs they use are a factor in many school shootings. Obviously, the APA does not use all of the relevant information available when offering “expert opinions” on Public Policy. It is unprofessional and unethical for a psychiatrist, let alone a group of them, to use incomplete and biased information when offering a professional opinion. Psychiatrists offer professional opinions to people seeking treatment, to educate child-serving professionals, and the general public; and psychiatrists provide “expert” opinions on Public Policy. The risks inherent in each of the contexts psychiatrists offer a “professional opinion” are serious; and potentially fatal. apparently, the APA is not capable, or is simply unwilling to be honest. If it were honest, the APA would not pretend there is no elephant in the room, e.g. the adverse effects of psychotropic drugs. The adverse effects of the drugs must be considered in every honest discussion about the treatment of psychiatric diagnoses, and people who have a psychiatric diagnosis who have violent and aggressive behaviors. It’s not possible to offer an “expert opinion” or make a treatment recommendation without discussing the known risks of following a treatment recommendation. It is unethical to providing misleading or inaccurate information about drug risks.

From the Statement of Paul S. Appelbaum, MD Representing the American Psychiatric Association, January 9, 2013:

It is important, by way of preface, to note some of the key realities related to violence and mental illness. Most violence in this country—96% by the best available estimate—is not committed by people with mental illness, and most people with mental illness are not violent. Indeed, people with mental illness are far more likely to be the victims than the perpetrators of violence; for example, women with mental illness have five times greater risk than other women of being the victims of domestic abuse.

The feminist philosopher and theoretician, Mary Daly, discusses the tendency of patriarchal institutions to reverse reality, to present a fun-house mirror image of the truth as it relates to women. The last sentence in the above paragraph is a  perfect illustration of this twisting of reality. In fact, the EXACT OPPOSITE is true, and that is that at least one in four women is already a victim of interpersonal violence, having experienced sex assault before age 18. AND the fact is that once you are a victim of violence you are exceedingly likely to have your trauma reactions labeled as a biological brain disease and to receive a prescription for mind-altering, mood-changing, behavior-controlling industrial chemicals.

This does apply to children, of course, since women and children are the targets of control and exploitation by the Mental Corrections arm of Corporate Med. Children who have been beaten, abused, humiliated and bullied are the ones who are singled out for systematic poison-for-profit by the paternalistic institution that is The American Psychiatric Association.

So, yeah, let’s make a list of every woman and child who has been given poison to shut them up about the fact they were victims of  violence. Let’s keep them under surveillance. Let’s get more women and children labeled as biological defectives and distribute more behavior-control chemicals to them. Let’s prevent them from being able to defend themselves. It makes perfect sense to the venerable members of The Association of Paternalistic Assholes.

About Madam Nomad

I survived 16 years of rape and battery in my family's house and when I ran away from home I was incarcerated in a psychiatric hospital. I was labeled and drugged with benzos and barbiturates. I ran away from there, worked as a private duty aide, had two kids, and then sued my parent for incest in 1985. In the same year Dr John Matthew of the Plainfield Health Center convinced me to take drugs for depression. I lost my mind, my soul, my heart and my health. I began the drug taper in 2007 and was able to completely stop the drugs in December, 2011.
